John Mauterer, DVM

Dr. John Mauterer graduated from the LSU School of Veterinary Medicine in 1987. He worked in private practice in New Orleans for one year before attaining an internship in Small Animal Medicine and Surgery at The Oradell Animal Hospital in New Jersey. In 1992, Dr. Mauterer completed his residency in Small Animal Surgery at The Ohio State University, where he achieved board certification in small animal surgery and remained on faculty for 2 additional years. Over the next 16 years, Dr. Mauterer worked as a small animal surgical specialist in private practice and co-founded the first multi-specialty 24-hour critical care hospital on the Northshore. Over the past 7 years, he has established the surgical practice at Veterinary Specialists of Greater New Orleans, servicing the New Orleans and surrounding areas, including Slidell, Mandeville, Covington, Houma and Thibodeaux. With 29 years of experience, Dr. Mauterer now is excited to be part of the founding of Capital Area Veterinary Specialists that serves Baton Rouge, Denham Springs, Walker, Hammond, Lafayette, and everywhere in between, with excellence and compassion for clients and their pets.
